REFLECTIVE WRITING OF PROJECT 1 ONLY:

Throughout these 6 weeks of doing Project 1 DPI, I have learnt so much things especially on using Adobe Photoshop. As a person who have never used Photoshop before this, I am really happy and satisfied with all that have been taught to us in this 6 weeks of DPI.

Firstly, I really enjoyed and had so much fun doing this physical collage work as I got to experience doing it hands on. I learnt so much about how important composition is in design & so much more on how I can apply design principles, rule of thirds, leading lines and using golden ratio in my collage. I realised that when making collages I need to make sure that the design leads the viewer's eyes in an orderly manner so they know what story i'm trying to convey in the collage. Moreover, I was happy to have been introduced to Adobe photoshop and how to add, use layers and pen tool during our digital collage project work. The digital collage exercise has improved and widen my skills and knowledge in using adobe Photoshop. I had fun too making it. Through the videos and lectures sir gave us, it was very helpful and informative. I have learnt to use new tools in photoshop to create the collage such as: adjustment layers, pen tool, shortcut keys, filters, layering, lasso and more. Here I also tried utilizing the composition rules such as rule of thirds and golden ratio for the compositions.

The digital imaging exercises were also fun, doing photoshop for the Shazam exercise and recolouring. It's really interesting and amazing to know that we can recolour a picture which is just black and white and transforming it into a coloured picture by using masking layers, selection tools, brush tool and overlays. Im happy to have learnt more on using blur effects, masking and adjustments tool to make things look more realistic. I have slowly gotten used to the shortcut keys as well. Something I observed is that I am able to better work after looking at references for inspiration – starting from nothing is something I usually struggle with. I also noticed that the weekly check-ins helped me be more productive and procrastinate less. At first, it was quite tough and confusing for me, but as I continued doing more layers and extra exercises, I started getting more used to the steps on what to click and press. I just need to get more used to it. The demo slides and the demo video really helped me so much and the instructions given were very clear.

Overall, my experience during these 6 weeks was personally enjoyable, the classes as well as the process of working on the project, especially composing the collages and the fact that we are slowly getting used to the Adobe programmes. I found the lectures to be very easily digestible. I particularly enjoyed composing the physical collages as I could express myself through it. I am really happy I've learnt a lot about basics of Composition and using Rule of Thirds and Golden ratio and more. I learnt a lot more on how to use new tools and adjustments on Adobe Photoshop.
